What are your recommended Linux distributions for new users.
  1. Zorin OS:  IS a good easy to utilize Linux distribution designed for Windows and Mac converters.
  2. Mint OS: This is a good general use Linux distribution. 
  3. Kubuntu: Is a distribution using a windows like desktop environment with customization. 
  4. Sytem76 Pop OS: This is a good distribution for developers converting from Windows to Linux. 

There are numerous purchasing options:

  • Vast majority of windows systems can be wiped and load a Linux OS. However research the specific model and warranty as updating OS might void warranty.
  • Dell has options to purchase systems with Ubuntu. Search their website. 
  • System76 is based in USA and creates laptops and desktops with Linux.
    • They offer two Linux options
      • POP OS Which is their open source Linux OS based on Ubuntu LTS.
      • You can install other distributions and System76 provides software for driver/firmware updates and switching graphics mode if Nvidia card is installed.
  • Tuxedo Computers offers systems built and ship with Linux.
    • They have their own Linux distribution Tuxedo OS based on Ubuntu.
    • You can load other Linux OS on them. They have instructions for installing their software to keep firmware/drivers updated and switching graphics options.
    • They also provide options for windows if you need VM or dual boot with multiple drives.
    • They headquarters are outside of US in Germany and therefore could cost additional shipping fees, taxes, etc.
  • There are still other options however when you do your search ensure you look where company is located as this will determine if extra taxes, shipping fees, etc. will need to be applied.

Yes: However you will have to check if changing the OS voids your warranty (if applicable). Do research on your installed parts, CPU, Graphics, Etc. to see if there are any concerns running Linux.
